1 – A Emancipação newspaper (2 February 1879)
Published in Tomar in 1879, A Emancipação is considered the first newspaper of the Tomar press. Republican in outlook, it was edited by Angelina Vidal and Luís Augusto Pereira Campeão.
Angelina Vidal’s presence as an editor was particularly significant. A journalist and an active figure in the cultural and public life of the late nineteenth century, she established herself in a context in which women’s participation in the public sphere faced severe restrictions.
This copy bears witness to a founding moment in Tomar’s press and highlights the role of print production in the circulation of ideas, information and public debate.
An object embodying the memory of Tomar’s press and the printed word.
2 – 170 Anos do Movimento Associativo dos Industriais Gráficos (APIGRAF, 2023)
Published as part of the celebrations marking 170 years of the printing industry’s association movement in Portugal, this work documents the historical, industrial and human development of the printing sector and its associated industries.
Organised in two volumes, it brings together documents and accounts that trace the transformation of the processes, companies, professionals and associations that have shaped the history of printing in Portugal.
The work also represents a way of preserving and passing on the memory of a sector in constant transformation, linking its historical heritage with the contemporary reality of the printing industry.
An object of memory from an industry that continues to transform itself.
