Management and Succession in Family Companies
According to a study carried out by the European Commission and in relation to the transmission of companies, we are living a period of ten years, in which a third of EU entrepreneurs, especially those responsible for family businesses, will abandon their activity.
According to estimates, this abandonment may affect annually up to 690,000 small and medium-sized enterprises and 2.8 million jobs.
The study also states that the process of transmission of companies is complex and often is not successful, not because companies are not viable but simply because problems occur in the transmission phase.
The problem of management and succession in family businesses is of enormous importance in a business fabric composed of more than 90% of small and medium-sized enterprises, with a vast majority of households.
Family businesses are a decisive factor in the stability of economies and an abundant source of genuine social responsibility practices.
